The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has decided to take no further action (NFA) on investigations into a defamatory Facebook post that linked former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to the syringe assault case involving Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's son.

In a parliamentary written reply today, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that while the police had opened an investigation paper following a police report lodged on Aug 18, 2025, the case has been classified as NFA.

"The investigation paper was referred to the AGC on Dec 23, 2025, and the AGC has decided to classify this case as NFA," Saifuddin (above) said in response to a question from Rafizi.

Saifuddin explained that the decision was based on an MCMC analysis report.

"This decision was made based on the findings of a profile analysis report by the MCMC, which was unable to identify the owner of the account in question and could not conclusively link any individual to the Facebook account under investigation," he said.

Rafizi had asked Saifuddin to state the police and MCMC investigation statuses, regarding a report made by Ismail's press secretary on Aug 18 last year over the defamatory Facebook posting.

Last August, the former economy minister's then 12-year-old son was stabbed with a syringe at a Putrajaya mall car park.

Following the attack, Rafizi's wife received a chilling text message that read: “Diam! Andai teruskan, AIDS!” (“Shut up! If you continue, AIDS!”), punctuated with three syringe emojis.

Rafizi later insinuated the attack may have been related to a meeting he had with whistleblowers concerning former politician Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

Rafizi also denied that the attack had any connection to Ismail or former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who was also linked to the attack, amid allegations that the Pandan MP was investigating cases related to them.

Farhash had dismissed any links between him and the attack and sued Rafizi for defamation.

Request for details rejected

Last month, Rafizi revealed that he had received an update on Dec 1 regarding a probe to find the mastermind behind the attack on his son.

However, Saifuddin shut down his request via Parliament for details from the update to be confirmed publicly.

In a parliamentary written reply on Jan 27, Saifuddin told Rafizi that this is to avoid disrupting investigations.

"An open confirmation (of details) in the Dewan Rakyat, there is concern that this will disrupt the process of tracing the suspect and can jeopardise the safety of key witnesses.

“As such, the request can't be fulfilled," he said.

‘Just NFA it’

Following this, Rafizi announced on Jan 30 that he would personally write to the government and the authorities to discontinue investigations into the attack if the probe into the case had reached a dead end.

“I will wait for a while, but if the investigations go nowhere, I will write to the prime minister, home minister, and the police to request that the investigations be discontinued. Just NFA the case.

“Don’t waste our police’s time, who are just following orders,” he said on Facebook.

Rafizi said his family had come to terms with what had happened and was not surprised by Saifuddin’s “administrative reply”.

“It’s because the one who got affected was my son. I don’t expect others to understand our feelings.

“And I also understand how our system works. If you have no power, the process to find the culprit behind the attack will take a long time.

“It may even go quiet if they feel the people have forgotten about it,” the former PKR deputy president added.

Rafizi also noted how Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had issued an immediate statement following the attack, urging the authorities to investigate the matter transparently.

However, with the authorities unable to complete the investigations after six months, the Pandan MP said it was best for him to request a discontinuation to save Anwar’s face.

Rafizi also warned that, ultimately, those with power would be held accountable by the voters.
