The law must be seen to be fair for all, given the crime committed. It does not matter if one had held high position in the government or a petty thief. At least a petty cheat had only impacted on the unfortunate victim, unlike a politician who had impacted on the country's finance and economy plus people's livelihood. The burden of the stolen money has now fallen on the people that may take years or decades to settle. Anyone feeling sympathetic to leaders who had siphoned money from the national funds must be seen as future raiders of the remaining national fund, if given that opportunity. This set of politicians harbouring such thoughts must be identified and rejected at the next GE. Nobody will willing forgive a person who had stolen from his own home, so why should someone be forgiven and given special treatment for stealing from the nation, especially by a person elected to serve as the Trustee of the nations assets and wealth. If the Party members are upset are they prepared to make good that loss. If we are truly God fearing we should know what is right and wrong. No two ways.
