MIC sent a letter to Perikatan Nasional enquiring about membership details and processes, party secretary-general S Ananthan clarified.
This is after PN chief Muhyiddin Yassin claimed that MIC had already applied to join PN.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Ananthan said the membership query had been sent to PN four days before the MIC general meeting two weeks ago.
It was sent after PAS leaders, including deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, invited MIC to have talks to discuss membership in PN.
"The letter's contents focused on several issues, including the form of membership, entry processes, and MIC's position should it be accepted as a PN component," Ananthan said.
He added that the party also needed to know whether its application would be automatically accepted or whether there were conditions it needed to fulfil.
On Nov 16, MIC delegates at its AGM unanimously supported a call to quit BN and join PN.
However, the decision was ultimately put in the hands of the party leadership.
PN considering ‘application’
Yesterday, Muhyiddin told the press that PN had received MIC's application to join the coalition, and that its supreme council would be making a decision soon.
“I had told the MIC president and secretary-general that we will discuss the application in detail after the Sabah polls.
“In principle, all the PN parties welcome MIC, but the final decision will be made by the PN supreme council," he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.
MIC wants to leave BN after being sidelined by the coalition leadership following the formation of the Madani government.
