Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) has thrown its support behind Hajiji Noor following his reappointment as Sabah chief minister, saying the election outcome must be respected and the state now needs a stable government.
Its president, Jeffrey Kitingan, said the vote reflected the “voice and aspirations of Sabahans” and that Star accepted the people’s choice.
Star used to be a component of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) but left the alliance just days before the dissolution of the Sabah legislative assembly on Oct 6.
That was over disagreements with GRS cooperating with Pakatan Harapan, which is also part of the new government.
In yesterday’s election, Star contested under its own logo.
The party secured two seats - Tambunan and Bingkor. This was down from the six it won in 2020.
Jeffrey thanked supporters statewide, particularly voters in the two constituencies that returned Star candidates to the state assembly.
“Your confidence strengthens our resolve to serve Sabah with integrity and purpose,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the party would work constructively with Hajiji’s government to pursue development, stability, and long-term progress, stressing the importance of cooperation on constitutional matters and Sabah’s political autonomy.
Strong, principled voices
Reiterating Star’s long-held position, Jeffrey said the party remained committed to the state’s 40 percent revenue entitlement under the Federal Constitution, describing it as central to Sabah’s long-term sovereignty.
“Since this negotiation can only be carried out government-to-government, it is crucial that Sabah has strong, principled voices involved in the process.
“We stand ready to support any sincere and courageous effort to secure what rightfully belongs to Sabah,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Perikatan Nasional chief Muhyiddin Yassin said his coalition will remain a part of the opposition in Sabah.
PN won one seat yesterday, Karambunai. It was also PAS’ first seat in Sabah.
