Flood situation largely unchanged in 3 states

The flood situation in Perak, Kedah, and Penang has remained largely unchanged, with the number of evacuees at temporary relief centres rising slightly to 5,850 this morning from 5,788 last night.

In Perak, four districts were still affected, with 2,867 victims from 967 families taking shelter at 28 temporary relief centres as of 8am.

According to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, the district of Larut, Matang and Selama continued to record the highest number of evacuees, with 1,872 people from 640 families sheltering at 19 relief centres that have been operating since Thursday.

In Manjung, 607 victims from 202 families were housed at five relief centres, while Kerian has 278 victims from 94 families at three centres.

Perak Tengah saw 110 victims from 31 families at a relief centre.

In Kedah, the number of flood victims continued to rise, with 1,934 people from 602 families relocated to 19 relief centres as of 9am, up from 1,708 people from 525 families last night.

Kubang Pasu was the latest district to be affected, joining six others already impacted by the floods.

The Kedah State Disaster Management Committee secretariat reported that Kulim has the highest number of evacuees, with 1,294 people from 372 families taking shelter at nine relief centres.

This was followed by Baling, with 291 people from 119 families at four centres, and Pendang, with 111 people from 32 families at one relief centre.

In addition, Pokok Sena has 102 people from 32 families at one relief centre; Sik has 79 people from 25 families at two centres; Padang Terap has 34 people from 11 families at one centre; while Kubang Pasu has 23 people from 11 families at a relief centre.

Five Kedah rivers at danger level

The Public Infobanjir website reported that five rivers in Kedah have exceeded the danger level.

They were Sungai Pendang in Pendang at 3.51m, Sungai Perik in Padang Terap at 14.21m, Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu at 22.11m, Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang at 6.84m, and Sungai Padang Terap in Kubang Pasu at 4.05m.

In Penang, the number of flood victims dropped slightly this morning to 1,049 people from 295 families, who are staying at seven relief centres across three districts, down from 1,187 people from 328 families last night.

According to the Social Welfare Department disaster information website, Seberang Perai Utara remains the worst-affected district, with 781 people from 217 families taking shelter at four relief centres, while Seberang Perai Tengah has 234 people from 68 families at two centres.
