Ruled by chaos and deception

I must say that it is refreshing to read the letter entitled [#1]No such thing as 'independent' media[/#] by Charles F Moreira. It seems that at any one time our political scene shifts from one absurdity to the other, on both fronts (ruling party as well as opposition), our news reporting likewise follows while completely forgetting the order of the times.
Chaos is the watchword here for the times that we speak of. Deception is the other. I sat transfixed and incredulous, watching the news daily from 1997 through 1998 at the height of our domestic political maelstrom and the ridiculous aftermath of the Mahathir-Anwar fiasco.
Who is orchestrating all these political plays? we often wondered. What sort of an IQ do they have - don't they know where this will all lead to? And what happened to the rest of the big boys - all of them have lost their tongues almost without exception until recently, of course. Still shaking our heads in disbelief at the turn of events and how we can allow all these to still occur.
We certainly applaud the maturity of our people from all races who (finally) rose up in unison to protest the injustices before us (the only reservation being the ignorant students and working class who participated blindly and got whacked by the less-than-intelligent security forces) and thank the Creator that there are still leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim and some of his followers (not all!) with a clear sense of right and wrong, but cringed afterwards when we saw Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail going to Madeleine Albright for help and her beautiful daughter running to Estrada - recent events since then have made the reasons for these feelings more clear to all and sundry. My goodness, don't they realise what they are doing and what kind of advice are they getting from those around them?
If you sit back and think about it and ask yourself who benefits from all these aberrations, as Count Monte Cristo did while in prison (read the book-lah! Don't just watch Astro only) then, and only then, can we begin to sift through the logic behind the shadow play that has been our common fodder at teh tarik stalls all over the country.
Who benefits from all the chaos in this country, nay in this region... who? Who would benefit from the fallout of the strongest management team this country has ever had? Well, you all go figure it out yourselves.
As a hint of what it's all about, the order we speak of is that as wrought by this newfangled Information or Knowledge Revolution, so-called by the 'priests of new media' sitting in the leather-backed chairs of boardrooms of Corporate America and Europe. Check it out.
As for government, there is no place for government as we know it today, much less independent media in a so-called new age where knowledge, or rather 'ignorance' reigns - it should be called i-Economy eh? - as designed by the originators of the Internet way back in the 1960s.
