PM: US-backed Gaza peace plan not comprehensive, but saving lives a priority
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that while the latest peace plan mooted by the US and Israel is not that comprehensive, the priority now is to save Palestinian lives.
Taking pot shots at detractors, he said it was easy for someone to continue with the polemics and trade barbs on the matter, but the ones bearing the brunt of Israeli attacks are innocent Palestinians.

“Our responsibility is to stop the Zionist violence, ensure food and medicine supply reach those affected, and give those who survived a ray of hope,” he said on Facebook today.
Yesterday, Hamas announced that it accepts several parts of US President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Israel’s nearly two-year war on Gaza, but that some elements of the proposal require further negotiations.
According to Al Jazeera, the group handed over its response to Trump’s 20-point plan to halt the war on Friday, hours after Trump gave the group until Sunday to respond to the proposal.
Subsequently, Trump urged the Israeli government to stop its attacks in Gaza, adding that he believes the Palestinian group is "ready for a lasting peace".
The US president separately issued a video message, thanking Turkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan" and so many others, so many people fought so hard.”
First step to stop bloodshed
Anwar also defended the Arab nations for backing Trump’s peace plan.
He said the agreement was the first step in ensuring the bloodshed in Gaza stops, halting any form of displacement, and ensuring Gazans can head back home.
“Malaysia will remain in solidarity with Gaza and continue to speak out against the Zionist hypocrisy,” added the Tambun MP.
Since October 2023, Israeli bombardment has killed nearly 66,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children.
The UN and rights groups have repeatedly warned that the enclave is being rendered uninhabitable, with starvation and disease spreading rapidly amid widespread displacement.
