BN demands MIC explain Bersatu AGM appearance

BN will be seeking an official clarification from MIC over the latter’s youth leader’s attendance at Bersatu’s eighth annual general meeting (AGM) yesterday.

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly criticised MIC's presence at the Bersatu event held at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam as “inappropriate”.

“We leave it to the MIC leadership to take any disciplinary action based on its party rules, and (MIC) will also be asked by the BN secretary-general to provide a written explanation on why a representative was sent (to Bersatu’s AGM).

“This is a negative manifestation… it is inappropriate for any BN component party representative to attend a conference organised by a party outside the Madani government, whether in a personal or official capacity,” Zahid (above) said, as quoted by Sinar Harian.

The deputy prime minister told reporters this after officiating an event in Bagan Datuk today alongside BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Yesterday, MIC Youth deputy chief K Kesavan attended the Bersatu Youth AGM, with the party’s deputy president M Saravanan confirming with Free Malaysia Today that Kesavan was a “representative” for the party following an invitation from Bersatu.

The incident came amid talk of Perikatan Nasional courting MIC and MCA into the opposition fold at a time when the BN component parties appeared dissatisfied with the government coalition.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had previously invited the two parties to join PN, with the coalition’s secretary-general, Azmin Ali, in turn, labelling the invitation as a “positive development” towards the next 16th general election.

Earlier, four MIC state liaison committees passed resolutions to withdraw from BN.
