Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has officially taken over the probe into the shocking attack on PKR MP Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old son, who was injected with an unknown substance last week.
Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the move was necessary to ensure a more comprehensive and centralised investigation.
“The public who may have any information related to this case is urged to channel it to the nearest police station to assist the investigation.
“Community cooperation is greatly appreciated to ensure justice and transparency in the investigation process,” Shazeli (above) added in a statement.
The brazen attack took place in the car park of a shopping mall in Putrajaya as Rafizi’s family were entering their vehicle.
Rafizi revealed that two men dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets ambushed them, with one dragging his son out and stabbing him with a syringe.
Who’s the mastermind?
Later that night, Rafizi’s wife received a chilling text message which read: “Diam! Andai teruskan, AIDS!” (Shut up! If you continue, AIDS!) - punctuated with three syringe emojis.
The former economy minister has since accused a “certain individual” of masterminding the assault.
He claimed it came shortly after he met with a “group of whistleblowers” who provided him with explosive information on a scandal implicating this individual, whom he did not name.
Since stepping down from his cabinet role after losing the PKR deputy presidency, Rafizi has emerged as one of the government’s fiercest critics.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, has strongly denied attempts to link him to the incident, calling such claims “crazy”.
Rafizi had previously urged the MACC to investigate Farhash after the latter was implicated in a mining scandal.
