What happened to Malaysia? When other fast-growing economies such as China and India are ardently talking about the challenges of globalisation, new development plans for remote areas, improvements on human rights, when the European Union is even moving towards a political union with a far-sighted and open-minded attitude, we are talking about racial issues and creating ethnic confrontations.

What is our future plan on economic growth? Are we going to be more practical in facing globalisation by enhancing our labour productivity and product qualities, by maintaining good business relationships with all the large markets in the world, including EU and the United States, or do we just want to keep on advocating that globalisation is a conspiracy to promote Western Imperialism?

The academic subject of economics teaches us how to take advantage of free trade by specialising in the product in which we have comparative advantages, and then exchanging our products for others that are more efficiently produced by other countries. In order to achieve this objective, an open market is required. If nobody in Malaysia is keen to listen and accept this, please close down all the economics faculties in local universities and colleges.

Who should be responsible for all this mess in Malaysia? How can we achieve Vision 2020 if we are so narrow-minded? If we can't answer these, we might as well close down all the academic faculties of knowledge from western countries, such as economics, business studies ... even engineering and IT.
