New Straits Times and the Star reported the end of negotiations between national car-maker Proton with German Volkswagen AG and US-based General Motors Corp.

The Sun and the Star headlined ACA's seven-hour interrogation of VK Lingam's brother Thirunama Karasu yesterday in relation to the police reports he lodged in March.

The Sun also front-paged today's cabinet meeting to discuss the royal commission terms of reference and its members.

Malay newspapers

Both Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also headlined the end of Proton negotiations with foreign partners.

In addition, Utusan Malaysia reported on the signing of the Asean Charter and Syariah High Court Judge Hassan Basri Shafie charged with five corruption charges.

Berita Harian also reported the prime minister's assertion that Malaysia's electoral system is fair.

Tamil newspapers

Makkal Osai quoted a dejected MIC president S Samy Vellu as saying that he was disappointed with the manner many young Indians were today questioning his contributions to the society.

Tamil Nesan however led with a headline which said that Samy Vellu was the protector of Tamil schools in this country.

New Straits Times commented on the deployment of medical facilities and trained health staff at National Service training camps, calling it a stop-gap measure.

Berita Harian lauded the new Asean Charter as a sign of growth and a step forward for member countries.

Utusan Malaysia supported the prime minister's plans for a deep sea fishing joint-venture between Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei dan Indonesia.

Tamil Nesan said students should not despair if they don't do well in examinations and should use their failure to gain success.

Makkal Osai urged everyone to be well prepared for the floods in the coming months.
