Old wine in new bottle is what the Malay Action Front is. Every weak and failing leader from within Umno faces this.

It is like the alpha male in a gang of tigers. When he is old and weak, the younger males threaten his leadership. This happened to our beloved Tunku Abdul Rahman and now it is happening to the man who threatened the late Tunku.

Whoever takes office as Umno president and prime minister of our country will again face this threat at the later years of his leadership. This is an absolutely sad picture of our political state. The service of a leader is negated and scorned at rather than appreciated and honoured. This is, however, inevitable due to the deep-rooted structure of our political scenario.

In short, reviving Malay solidarity within Umno without addressing the corruption, cronyism, nepotism, injustice, rule of law and bringing to court those who have wronged the country is mere lip service and of no consequence to the people of Malaysia.

Without re-engineering the entire political structure within the ruling government we will not see any real change and the next alpha male within the party will rule for another decade or two before the nation faces similar problems.

The public should read the joint Barisan Alternatif manifesto released prior to the last general elections and judge for themselves if we shouldn't have a change in leadership come 2004.
