A police report has been lodged against a member of parliament for allegedly using two identity cards for different purposes, including the setting up of a company.

The report, made by a businessman on Sept 13, included newspaper cuttings and company reports alleging abuses by Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman in using two MyKad.

Contacted by Malaysiakini, the complainant, who wanted to remain anonymous, confirmed that he had lodged the report with the Ampang police station in Kuala Lumpur but declined to elaborate.

"Yes, I made the report but the police is investigating it now. I don't want to add anything to that. Let them investigate," he said.

The police report claimed that Suhaili had used one of his MyKad when registering as an Umno member while the other was used for registering his business with the Companies Commission Malaysia (CCM).

Also attached with the police report was a photocopy of Suhaili's two MyKad and several forms from the CCM pertaining to the politician's company called Saraequity Sdn Bhd.

The photocopies bore the same picture of Suhaili but different identification numbers and postal addresses.

One read 'Ahmad Suhaily Abdul Rahman' with IC number ending with 5027 (old number being H 0552181) while another read 'Suhaili Abdul Rahman' ending with 5029 (old number H 0477025).

'No such thing'

Suhaili, when contacted, denied the allegation and pointed out that efforts to discredit him using such issues have been occurring since 1999.

"I knew about this police report. In fact, this has been happening since 1999. I have made it clear - even then - that there's no such thing as me having two MyKad.

"Even in the 2004 general elections, this internal Umno group made a petition to disqualify me. Now it is worse. These people have been pursuing this matter - I'll leave it to the police," he said.

The Labuan Umno chief stressed that this rival group wants to bring him down and take over his Parliament post.

"Logically why was the police report made in Ampang and not in Labuan or Kota Kinabalu? Either way, the file still has to be transferred to Labuan.

"They want to bring me down and they will not stop. They are doing this now because election time is near," he said.

Clarifying the discrepancies in the two MyKad, Suhaili said he has never had the MyKad with the name 'Ahmad Suhaily', identification number ending '5027' and has never lived at the stated address before.

He also said during the 2004 general elections he had produce a letter from the National Registration Department to prove he only has one identity.

"I am an ordinary small YB (yang berhormat), it's very easy for the police to pull me in. But I have letters from the National Registration Department confirming that I have only one identity," he said.

Asked whether he would lodge a police report to counter the allegation, Suhaili said: "I don't want to follow their rhythm and tempo. This is their game. Why should I bring myself to their game? I have nothing against them."

However, the parliamentarian declined to elaborate, via the telephone, on the different version of his name and IC number found in Saraequity's annual report.

He insisted on meeting Malaysiakini personally to clarify the matter.
