New Straits Times, the Star and The Sun reported on plans to phase out the one sen coins by implementing a rounding-up mechanism of goods and services to the nearest five sen by April next year.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian reported that Singapore's claims over the disputed Batu Putih Island/Pedra Branca that lies between both countries was part of the republic's attempt to extend its maritime influence in the Malacca Straits and the Singapore Straits.

While Berita Harian also led with the rounding-up mechanism of one sen coins, it also frontpaged the RM450,000 award to a housewife in Kedah after it was determined negligence at Jitra Hospital had led to her being given HIV-tainted blood.

Tamil newspapers

Malaysia Nanban carried a front page report on a death threat received by its journalist for writing about the plight of a Tamil school in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Both Tamil Nesan and Makkal Osai reported about the phasing out of the one sen coin.
