Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has slammed alleged attempts to lobby the government into extending Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat’s tenure.

In his speech at the Prime Minister’s Department this morning, he called the move an attempt to politicise the judiciary and stressed it should not have happened with such an independent institution.

Agreed. Can you imagine in future, the supporters of all the Tom Dick and Harry judges started to publicly lobbying for their favourite judges to be promoted, extended or whatever else these supporters want... We can also see a scenario of competing public lobbying in future, where supporters of Judge A will publicly lobby for Judge A and supporters of Judge B publicly lobbying for Judge B... Not to be outplayed in seeing such shameless public lobbying, supporters of Judge C will also start to publicly lobby for Judge C.. And so on and on and on and on ......... ???
