MCA has filed a report with the MACC urging authorities to investigate allegations of improprieties over the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s MyKiosk project.

A video of Chong addressing reporters outside the MACC’s compound before lodging the report was also uploaded on MCA’s official Facebook.
Reiterating that MCA is merely voicing the rakyat’s doubts and frustrations over the project, Chong denied claims that the BN component party is attempting to destabilise the government by bringing up qualms regarding the project.
Inflated prices
He asserted that the effectiveness of the project has become a matter of public dispute, while certain quarters insist that the inflated pricing of each kiosk has led to a ballooning of the project’s total cost.
“We are merely voicing out on a matter that affects the rakyat, who are questioning whether public funds have been misused, or if there were drawbacks in (the project’s) implementation method.
“This is not a political issue. We’re just asking how much the government has spent in total for the project, were awards given through an open tender process and who is the agency behind the kiosks?
“Did the project involve misappropriation of funds, cronyism or nepotism?” he questioned.
He added that MCA’s report to the anti-graft agency includes figures collected from “credible sources”, including the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s website, to aid the MACC in its investigations.
“MACC must seriously consider this matter as it is an issue which could tarnish the government’s good name (due to) a minister or ministry that is incompetent and inefficient,” Chong stressed.
Yesterday, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the ministry is open to being investigated over the MyKiosk project.
The DAP lawmaker added that his ministry is also compiling evidence of individuals and parties spreading false allegations about MyKiosk, following which complaints will be lodged with the police and MCMC.
MyKiosks are trading booths introduced by Nga’s ministry to substitute hawker stalls, as an effort to modernise the hawker and small business industry.
However, there are accusations that the kiosks, which cost between RM13,000 and RM25,000, are being sold to local councils at inflated prices.
