Ling's abduction: MACC denies harassment, misconduct
The MACC has asserted that it has taken all the necessary steps in handling Pamela Ling’s case, which the police are investigating as a missing person incident, denying any elements of harassment or misconduct.

The MACC has asserted that it has taken all the necessary steps in handling Pamela Ling’s case, which the police are investigating as a missing person incident, denying any elements of harassment or misconduct.
“It must be emphasised that, at every stage, the MACC has acted within the legal framework, including obtaining all necessary court orders and adhering to the established procedures.
“Allegations of harassment or misconduct are unfounded,” the anti-graft agency clarified in a statement today.
This came following Ling’s family lawyer, Sangeet Kaur Deo, questioning the integrity of the authorities for letting her abduction happen and accusations that MACC tried to pressure Ling in resolving disputes with her estranged husband.
Public safety concerns
Sangeet said Ling’s disappearance raises grave concerns about public safety.
“It has been alleged that individuals impersonating police officers may have been involved in intercepting Ling on the day of her disappearance.
“If true, this raises troubling questions about public safety and enforcement integrity,” she said earlier today.
The lawyer also said that on April 7, just two days before the disappearance, Ling filed a judicial review application in the High Court of Malaya challenging the actions of the graftbusters.
“In her application, the MACC is alleged to have, among others, used its powers under the MACC Act and anti-money laundering law to exert pressure on Ling to resolve private disputes with her estranged husband, rather than for legitimate investigative purposes,” she said.
To this, the MACC said the judicial review does not negate or invalidate the ongoing investigation into the alleged offences.
“Legal challenges are the right of any individual but do not impede the enforcement process as provided by law,” it said, adding that it has provided full cooperation to the police.
Don’t speculate
MACC reiterated its call for all parties to refrain from speculation that could hinder the investigation or create confusion among the public.
“At this stage, our shared priority should be to provide full cooperation to the authorities so that efforts to locate and safely return Ling can proceed smoothly, safely, and as swiftly as possible,” it added.
On May 2, Ling’s family revealed that the 42-year-old, who is a Datin Seri, was on her way to meet MACC investigators on April 9, where she was supposed to facilitate a money laundering investigation, but was abducted before she could reach her destination.
Her Grab driver on that day claimed that individuals wearing police uniforms stopped his vehicle, forced Ling to exit and allegedly forced him to mark the ride as “completed”.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said his team is investigating the possibility of Ling’s husband being involved in her abduction.
He also said police are determining whether the suspects are actual officers or impostors.
