Nurul Izzah denies reporting influencer over background check offer

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has denied lodging any report with the MCMC against influencer Aliff Ahmad, who was recently summoned over a social media post offering to conduct a background check on her.
The Permatang Pauh PKR chief said she had not initiated any action against Aliff.
“I do not know him personally, nor have I ever met him. I am also not certain how he earns a living, but of course, we should support all efforts that comply with legal guidelines,” she said in a statement to Malaysiakini.
Aliff had offered to scrutinise Nurul Izzah’s background using a system he co-founded, known as Scrut Analytica.
“What is clear, however, is that he should not be investigated merely for making a challenge or statement as mentioned.
“I wish to emphasise that neither I nor any of my officers have ever lodged any report with the MCMC against Aliff, as alleged,” she said.
Aliff yesterday revealed that he was summoned to MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya at 8pm but declined due to other commitments. He later announced he would attend the meeting at 10.30am today.
His initial post included a screenshot asking what Nurul Izzah, who is Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter, does for a living and how she funds her political career.
This led to online speculation that certain quarters were trying to shield her from scrutiny ahead of the PKR party elections next month.
Nurul Izzah also urged caution in making allegations that could damage reputations.
“It is important for all parties to be cautious when making accusations that could tarnish reputations and undermine the credibility of any individual or group without a solid basis.
“Above all, we hold firm to the principle of standing for the truth. May Allah bless all our efforts,” she said.
‘Nothing illegal’
Separately, Bersatu Youth leader Na’im Brundage criticised MCMC’s move to summon Aliff as excessive and potentially an abuse of power.
“Based on his posting, Aliff has not committed any crime. He did not issue threats, incite hatred, defame, intimidate, or spread hate against any race or religion,” said Na’im, who was previously a PKR youth leader.
“His offer to conduct a background check on the prime minister’s daughter also does not violate any provisions of Malaysian law.
“On the contrary, this initiative should be commended as an effort to promote a more transparent political culture in the country,” he added.
Na’im also pointed out that similar checks using Scrut Analytica had been conducted on top political figures, including Anwar, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, and former DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng.
