I refer to David Chew's letter, [#1]'Social contract' and Bangsa Malaysia[/#] (Jan 23). Unfortunately, most Chinese still believe that they can survive whatever the Malays do to them. They are only concerned about this generation. I am getting worried because if eventually our education gets messed up, that is the beginning of the end for us.

I feel my generation (I am in my forties now) can survive without any problems. But I am not optimistic when it comes to my children's future.

Look at the way the education system is being changed every time the education minister is changed. I am convinced the government is trying to suppress the good students while at the same time not upgrading the poor students at all. Eventually, the so-called high standard of the Chinese schools will be dragged down. Then all of us will be equal all right - equally lousy, that is!
