I find Umno's talk about "Malay unity" hilarious and irrelevant.

First, PAS is not a "Malay" party as such although its leadership and membership are predominantly Malays. It is a Muslim party that strives to unite Malaysians of all races and religions under Islamic principles that are fair and equitable to all. Thus, PAS has some Chinese Muslims.

Second, Keadilan is founded as a modern multiethnic and multireligious party although it is still Muslim-predominated. There are more Chinese and Indians in Keadilan than in PAS.

Put in computer terms, Umno and PAS-Keadilan are two "incompatible" programs. And as both PAS and Keadilan are increasingly popular among the non-Muslims, especially the Chinese as shown in the Lunas by-election, they are the ones which should be initiating a "Malaysian unity" pow-wow to bring Umno into the proper path of nation-building.

Who is Umno, which only garnered a 35 percent Malay/Muslim support in the 1999 general elections, to offer a "Malay unity" initiative to PAS-Keadilan?

Let me remind Umno and Utusan Malaysia again: Malays, Muslims, Chinese and all Malaysians have outgrown you intellectually, morally and spiritually.

Bye-bye, assabiyah! Bye-bye, Umno and Utusan Malaysia! We Malays and Muslims are okay without you. We are all right with PAS, Keadilan, PRM and DAP.

Worry about yourselves. We will take care of ourselves.
