Umno has no authority to lead the "Perpaduan Melayu" meeting with PAS and Keadilan. Consider the fact that more than 70 percent of the Malays are in Keadilan and Pas, Umno should not project itself as the saviour of the ethnic Malays.

Since 1957, the Malays have given Umno this opportunity to lead them. What the party did was only to enrich a handful of its cronies while the majority of the Malays remain destitute. They even victimise the Malays (their own race and breed) in states not controlled by Umno.

In fact, Umno has no authority to lead Barisan Nasional as it is no longer considered the "backbone" of BN. The majority of former Umno party members are now with Barisan Alternatif. MCA should realise this fact and they should lead the BN coalition. What MCA should do now is to call upon Umno, MIC and other parties within the coalition for a "Perpaduan Rakyat" meeting and take care of BN's own backyard.

For Barisan Alternatif, there is no need for the "Perpaduan Melayu" meeting; the majority of the Malays are now united under PAS and Keadilan. The recently concluded Lunas by-election has shown that all races can "unite" and there is indeed "perpaduan" among all races. This is what we want for the nation, now and in the future. The point is, there is no "perpaduan" under BN which is constantly shrouded with racist remarks and internal suspicion.

It is pathetic that the mainstream media still project Umno as the rightful representative for the Malays - what a shame! Let me repeat, Umno members are a minority within the Malay population. I hope they realise this.
