Ayer Kuning rep passes away due to heart attack

Ayer Kuning assemblyperson Ishsam Shahruddin passed away earlier this evening. He was 58 years old.

The matter was confirmed to Malaysiakini by Tapah Umno Youth chief Fahmi Jakhsi.

“Yes, he passed away earlier this evening. He suffered a heart attack when playing football in Penang,” he said.

Born on Aug 31, 1966, the Tapah Umno chief was a former footballer and spent most of his career playing for Perak FA.

The Umno lawmaker was also part of the Perak team when the state won the FA Cup in 1990.

Ishsam was elected Ayer Kuning assemblyperson in the previous general election.

He won the seat in a five-way battle, garnering over 2,000 votes majority against his closest contender, Bersatu’s Nazri Hashim.

According to Timur Laut district police headquarters, Ishsam passed out at about 5.20pm while shaking hands with other players during the Penang Chief Minister Cup tournament held in Stadium Bandar Raya, George Town, Penang.

“He was sent to the Penang Hospital at about 5.40pm after being given emergency aid near the field.

“However, the assemblyperson was pronounced dead at the Emergency Department of Penang Hospital at 6.28pm.”
