'Not important to us' - 1MDB taskforce unfazed by US DOJ unit closure
Malaysia is unperturbed by the United States' decision to close its Department of Justice’s (DOJ) elite anti-corruption unit.
1MDB taskforce chairperson Johari Abdul Ghani said the country will continue its ongoing efforts to recover assets linked to the 1MDB regardless of the closure.

1MDB taskforce chairperson Johari Abdul Ghani said the country will continue its ongoing efforts to recover assets linked to the 1MDB regardless of the closure.
“It’s not important because, to us, our country will continue the (assets) recovery efforts, not only in the US but also in Switzerland, the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, and many other countries.
“We are working on it and in regards to the US, we are of the view that Goldman Sachs has not settled its dues to us,” he said, as quoted by Malay daily Berita Harian.
Johari, who is the plantation industries and commodities minister, spoke to the media after an event in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah last night.
Last week, investigative journalist Bradley Hope - co-author of the “Billion Dollar Whale” book on the US$4.5 billion 1MDB scandal - revealed that the US DOJ had closed its elite anti-corruption unit.
Hope said new US Attorney-General Pam Bondi had quietly announced via email on Feb 5 the decision to close the unit famous for prosecuting the 1MDB scandal.
Following this, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki expressed his optimism that the decision by US President Donald Trump will not affect Malaysia’s ongoing cooperation with the republic.
