A group of Orang Asli students from Pahang won gold in the 26th International Robot Olympiad for the Primary School Robotics Innovation (age 10 to 13) category in Busan, Korea.
The Pekan district education office shared the success story in a Facebook post yesterday.
The office said the success of students from SK Permatang Keledang proves the capabilities of Malaysian students in the international arena and the commitment of teachers to building their science and technology skills.
“We are very proud of their achievement which has uplifted the names of our country and the school at the international level.
“May this success be an inspiration to more students and teachers to strive towards innovation and work towards achieving excellence in more sectors,” the post read.
A report by Berita Harian named the winners: Matthew Jambai Karong and Hafizie Azwanizi, who are in Standard 6, and Fizrey Rovince Ronachai (Standard 5).
The school head teacher Ahmad Zaki Zainudin was quoted praising the students’ success, saying it also proves the capabilities of Orang Asli children.
According to the teacher, the group previously entered similar competitions in China and Korea.
“This success proves that the skills and capabilities of Orang Asli students at SK Permatang Keledang are at par with other students.
“They were supported by highly committed teachers who helped to sharpen their skills in science and technology.
“This competition demanded participants to create and present robotics solutions through group work, where they have to effectively solve every problem given to them,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tengku Ampuan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have also extended their congratulations to the three Orang Asli pupils.
