The police have remanded another man to assist in the investigation into the assault of a disabled man at Astaka Chukai in Kemaman, Terengganu.
According to Kemaman acting police chief Wan Muhamad Wan Ja’afar, the latest suspect, a 40-year-old man, was arrested after providing a statement at the Kemaman district police headquarters at 11.30pm yesterday.
“To date, five men aged between 18 and 60 years old have been arrested for assisting in the investigation, while three additional witnesses have been called to give their statements,” he said, as quoted by Sinar Harian today.
The suspect will be remanded for three days from today to assist in the investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
On Jan 17, a video went viral on social media showing a man being beaten and dragged by several individuals at a local market.
The victim, identified as Ahmad Nor Al Faizan Jusoh, 47, reportedly has bipolar disorder. He was allegedly attacked after crashing his motorcycle into one of the market stalls.
Following the incident, the victim was reportedly admitted to the psychiatric special clinic at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu after receiving initial treatment at Kemaman Hospital.
Previously, the police arrested three suspects, including a vendor, on Jan 18.
