It's all about power

It's so refreshing to see a view that did not stem from hate and anger ([#1]Don't vote PAS[/#], Dec 7). Anti PAS' letter is unbiased and able to take the whole view of the problems facing our country today. I agree with her completely that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has his faults. He is not god. He is just another man trying to make things good in this world.
And along the way of trying to make things better he had made some mistakes. PAS being a political party capitalises on his mistakes. The operative word for the last sentence is "political party", and that is what PAS is all about.
The problem right now with Malays and Muslims in this country is that they have no division of concept of what is a political party and what is religion. Ask any average PAS supporter nowadays and criticise his party, and most of them would defend it wholeheartedly even to the extent of warring. Their mind would be closed up and everything that the government says is considered a lie, even when it's the truth.
And this is the problem: You can support whomever you like; you can vote whomever you like, but do take into consideration the arguments of both parties. Only by considering arguments from both parties will you benefit and know that politics is just a means to an end and not the end itself.
PAS on the other hand is bringing the country to radical extremism. Those who tried to be progressive in their Islamic views are considered an apostate. I always believe that Islam is such a progressive religion that it is suitable for any time, past or present.
But when Mahathir called for new interpretations of the Al-Quran, PAS took a swipe at him and spun the story to make it as if he was asking for the Quran to be re-written again. Is this not the act of a political party?
The fact is, these people are every bit a politician as an Umno division head. The only difference is that their politics are hidden under their robes.
So people, each time they make a statement, be very wary. See it from a political point of view. Try it. Only then you will see how political these people are.
And maybe then, you won't be too emotional when these people play up racial or religious sentiments for their political purposes, because you know that it is never about corruption, nepotism, cronyism or even religion. It's all about power.
