The Armed Forces have given five Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) cadets the boot and fined them a total of RM189,240 in compensation for being bullies in three separate cases.

This includes the cadet who had abused another trainee with a hot iron last month.

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said in a statement today that the Armed Forces Council decided this in a meeting yesterday.

In the hot iron case, Amirul Iskandar Ahmad Norhanizan was told to pay back the government RM44,600 as compensation.

He is on trial for the assault on Muhammad Salman Mohd Saiful Surash.

More cases

In one case, which is still under investigation, Izzat Izuddin Mohammad Arif ordered "corrective punishment" against Alief Ahsreihan Ahslemy, which was against the rules.

Muhammad Hidayat Haqimi Mohd Yuslan also executed the corrective punishment, which included physical punishment as well as ordering Alief Ahsreihan to carry out his personal work.

Ku Muhammad Irfan Ku Zaimi had also bullied Alief Ahreihan physically, while also putting him in isolation which caused emotional distress to the victim.

The three were ordered to pay the government RM48,452, RM19,481, and RM44,600 respectively.

Khaled said Alief Ahreihan’s bullying was uncovered after a UPNM lecturer raised the alarm.

In the final case, Ammar Hafiy Muhammad Habib had abused cadet Yeong Kian Rui.

Ammar Hafiy had physically abused Yeong, causing soft tissue injury to the victim's lower back.

The case was discovered after the victim sought medical help.

The council has not discussed the case of Mohd Adil Mat Awang Ghani, accused of stomping Muhammad Haziq Iqbal Ahmad Rashid with spiked boots causing serious injuries.

Khaled, in his statement, reiterated that bullying will not be tolerated and that action will be taken.
