Umno reinstates Tajuddin's membership
Umno has reinstated former Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s membership today, more than two years after suspending him in October 2022.
Tajuddin was supposed to be suspended for six years after this open criticism against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the party, but this was reversed through a supreme council decision today.

“The supreme council has unanimously agreed to rescind and retract the suspension of Tajuddin’s Umno membership effective immediately, in line with Article 10.6 and Article 5.3 of Umno constitution,” said the party’s secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement following today’s supreme council meeting.
The decision came after years of appeals from Tajuddin and support from other Umno leaders.
In August, Tajuddin and Zahid seemed to have mended ties.
Zahid was seen having a cordial conversation with Tajuddin, and when asked by the media on the following day, the Umno president indicated that he would consider Tajuddin’s appeals to have his suspension lifted.
Tajuddin had been removed from Umno’s supreme council in June 2022 after calling Zahid a liability and demanding his resignation.
He was dropped as Malaysia’s named ambassador to Indonesia in July 2022, before the Umno supreme council decided to suspend his membership in October that year.
This was not the first time Tajuddin’s Umno membership had been suspended.
In 1995, he was suspended over allegations that he paid RM6 million to secure a position as a division head. His membership was restored three years later.

Asyraf congratulated Veteran Umno Malaysia chairperson Othman Desa on his appointment as a new supreme council member.
On another matter, he said Umno will open political schools early next year that will teach nationhood, the Constitution, the political dynamics of a democracy, and the politics of service to the people.
The supreme council meeting also addressed the coalition government’s second-anniversary celebration last Saturday, which it lauded as a proven formula that should continue to be upheld and defended.
It urged for efforts to strengthen relations between coalition government parties to be redoubled, and for Umno representatives in government to continue to improve their work performance.
