PAS is urging the MACC to swiftly investigate a whistleblower’s claims of an alleged corruption scandal involving several politicians.
Party information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said there was no need for the anti-graft agency to wait for an official report to be lodged before taking action.
“PAS stresses that the MACC has a moral and legal duty to act immediately on these allegations even if there is no official report made,” he said in a statement today.
The Pasir Mas MP added that the graft busters can initiate investigations based on what is already known for now.
Last week, Malaysiakini reported that eight video recordings have surfaced of state assemblypersons purportedly discussing hundreds of thousands in bribes given to them in exchange for supporting a project.
In the recordings, a businessperson is heard asking the politicians to return the bribes after the project was cancelled.
The whistleblower in possession of the videos wants protection, but MACC chief Azam Baki has insisted that it can only be given once an official report is lodged.
Fadhli urged the public not to speculate until the investigation is completed.
“PAS stresses that all individuals involved in this immoral act (corruption) if proven guilty, must be punished by the law regardless of their background or position,” he also said.
Fadhli’s statement was issued an hour after Malaysiakini released a 17-second video snippet, in which a politician is purportedly discussing with the businessperson whether he can pay back the purported bribes through instalments.
