DAP’s core leaders must not forget the party’s founding principles when they are in the government, said party chairperson Lim Guan Eng.
He reminded the leaders that if they stray from the party’s original mission, the people will inevitably reject and overthrow DAP.
“Don’t forget all of this just because we are now part of the government,” he was quoted as saying by China Press.
“We must therefore stay true to our principles and the people, and not allow anyone to pawn the party’s principles and cause for personal gain.”
Guan Eng, who is Bagan MP, made these remarks last night at the Deepavali open house hosted by his sister who is also Tanjong MP, Lim Hui Ying.
He emphasised that a political party must be loyal to the people to continue receiving their support.
“DAP’s current achievements are the result of the hard-fought struggles and sacrifices of past leaders and party veterans over the years.”
He added that leaders like the late Karpal Singh and Lim Kit Siang have always upheld the party’s principles and cause, even going so far as to sacrifice their freedom for the people, which has contributed to DAP’s strength today.
Courage to speak out
Guan Eng also reminded DAP representatives to have the courage to speak out for the people if any government officials make mistakes.

“I often mention that DAP supports the government’s move to increase civil servants’ salaries, but at the same time, we also demand that civil servants show better service performance, including providing improved services to the public.
"Of course, some people will be dissatisfied when we say this, but that’s their problem. After all, this reflects the people’s sentiments and is what the people and voters want.”
Guan Eng stated that MPs should stand firm and continue to defend the public’s interests.
“This is what makes a true representative of the people.”
He stressed that DAP’s loyalty lies with the voters, not with government officials, as DAP is elected by the people and thus must listen to the people’s voices.
“When faced with issues such as water supply, all DAP MPs collectively voiced the people’s concerns, as the public was genuinely facing water supply difficulties at that time.”
He added that DAP will never compromise if any official is found to have erred.
“I’m not saying that all officials are bad. There are still many good ones.”

Founding principles? 1. LGE - resign and come back only after your corruption case ( founding principle - those charged should resign), 2. Remove your sister both as appointed Penang DAP Secretary and also Deputy Minister (founding principle, Nepotism), 3. Remove Sim and replace him with Ram Karpal Singh as he got the highest vote ( founding principle - Meritocracy) 4. Get off Anthony Loke's back and stop from puppeting Loke from the back. Loke will be great if you, LGE let him (founding principle - integrity) ALL said - make a deal like Zahid Hamidi - and leave. DAP and the country will be a better place. BUT we OWE you an unpayable DEBT of GRATITUDE for your SACRIFICES, ISA detention...the list is too LONG. Thank you. Thank you and THANK YOU Sir !
