I am an MCA member in Kedah. I am sad that Barisan Nasional has lost in the Lunas by-election. Although many people blame the failure on larger issues like the Vision Schools, I think they have all neglected one small but critical factor.

I know that the factional struggle between president Dr Ling Liong Sik's group and Chua Jui Meng's, has cost BN dearly. Ling and vice-president Ong Ka Ting's group does not want Chua to be credited with a BN victory in Kedah (Chua is the MCA chief in Kedah). If all Chinese votes went to BN, Chua would be the hero and in becoming so, might diminish the chances of Ong as Ling's successor.

Chua aspires to be the next MCA President. So, Ong organised a sabotage by secretly instigating MCA grassroots to vote for the opposition, or not to vote at all. The Ling-Ong alliance has not only succeeded in tarnishing Chua's name, but also those of BN and our dear Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
