You may want to investigate the absolute waste in the purchase of the Customs Department's sea patrol vessels at Port Klang.

It is apparent that no matter what vessels the government obtains, they either misuse them or abuse them on a regular basis. Someone should audit these vessels for operating effectiveness, patrols completed and for actions and operations successfully completed.

The attached photo (above) shows the state of seven customs vessels at their mooring on low tide (twice per day). The mooring is too close to the shore. All the vessels sit in mud, their engine intakes filling with silt. I think if you asked for an audit on the operating capability of the vessels, you would find they don't work very well.

The police force's sea patrol vessels at anchorage number about seven as well too. Most of the time, only one or two are on patrol and the rest lie at their moorings (left).

There is a big landing area for vessels from Indonesia between the police vessels dock and the Customs vessels dock. Rarely are any of these Indonesian vessels checked for number of people on board coming in or leaving.

RM1.4 billion costs overruns on bid work is a boondoggle exceeded only by the incompetent use of existing vessels already bought and paid for by the taxpayers.
