BUDGET 2025 | Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim has hit back at a PAS leader, claiming he was confusing people about the government’s petrol subsidy plan.
Kamil said PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari should understand the targeted subsidy proposal before making “half-baked” statements.
“Why did Fadhli not mention that the targeted subsidy focuses on stopping 40 percent of subsidised fuel usage by the T15 group and foreign nationals? That is the crux of the government’s proposal.
“Moreover, Anwar has assured that 85 percent of the population will not be affected by this proposal.
“This aspect was not mentioned; instead, only the half-baked story that the government intends to withdraw subsidies was highlighted,” said Kamil (above) in a statement today.
On Friday, Fadhli, who is also the Pasir Mas MP, claimed on Facebook that he anticipated the withdrawal of the RON95 subsidy should BN win the Mahkota by-election last month.
Separately, Kamil said that the opposition has so far failed to provide constructive criticism and often created malicious speculation to incite public hatred against the government.
“The government faces challenges and attacks based on slander and accusations due to their incitement, which stirs emotions, prejudice, and hatred rather than rational consideration,” he said.
He also noted that the public need not worry, as the government’s decision regarding the targeted subsidy aims to correct the distortion that benefits the wealthy and foreign nationals.
“Furthermore, the government emphasises that the savings will be used for the welfare of the general public, financing the development of education, health, and public transport facilities in the country,” he said.
