English newspapers

The New Straits Times reported Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had ordered ministries implicated in the Auditor-General's report for mismanaging funds and other irregularities to explain to the cabinet.

The Star wrote that monthly EPF withdrawal for reducing housing loans will be credited directly into the contributor's personal bank account. It also featured a series of pictures showing policemen arresting two suspected robbers.

Malay newspapers

Berita Harian carried a report that the Anti-Corruption Agency will be interrogating officials from ministries said to have mismanaged funds in the Auditor-General's report. It also reported on the Baling bus crash that killed six people and injuring 10 others.

Utusan Malaysia reported that some sellers are selling chicken at RM7, above the ceiling price set by the government at RM5.60. It also quoted Abdullah saying the riots in Kuala Terengganu was caused by the opposition being under pressure.

Chinese newspapers

All the major Chinese newspapers headlined the return of Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy from his medical check up in Australia. He also denied his resignation.

Tamil newspapers

Tamil Nesan today led with the bus crash in Baling which killed six people, including five Burmese, and 39 others injured.

The daily also reported a Malaysian Human Rights Commission suggestion to the Indian High Commission to appoint a special officer to deal with illegal Indian citizens here.

Editorial

The New Straits Times viewed that sampling errors run the risk of misleading or 'scare mongering' the public with regards to the safety of vegetable consumption.
