Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has praised the decision by the Perlis Fatwa Committee to declare Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holding (GISBH) as a deviant organisation.
He said this aligns with the government’s commitment to uphold Islamic teachings based on recognised and authoritative sources.
“This fatwa is rooted in reliable sources and follows the principles of Islamic law.
“It reflects our dedication to maintaining the integrity of Islamic teachings,” he told Malaysiakini.
Additionally, Mohd Na’im said the National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) will convene a discussion on the doctrines and beliefs of GISBH from Sept 24-26, chaired by Nooh Gadot, a task force chairperson of the MKI.
“I trust that the findings of this discussion will provide vital guidance for mufti departments across the nation,” he added.
He further expressed hope the MKI meeting would lead to “uniform fatwas and effective monitoring and enforcement actions”.
In a separate statement on Facebook, Mohd Na’im endorsed the enforcement measures taken by Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain, which included the arrest of GISBH leaders and members.
“We are committed to ensuring that the law is upheld regarding this issue,” he added.
Weakness in religious agencies
Earlier today, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj issued a stern warning regarding the ongoing investigation into the criminal activities of GISBH, expressing deep concern over the lack of effective action from relevant authorities.
The ruler then lamented the prolonged situation, highlighting significant weaknesses in monitoring and enforcement by religious agencies.
Mohd Na’im noted that the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is collaborating closely with the police in the investigation and has coordinated with state Islamic religious authorities to align enforcement actions.
