Two people suffered serious injuries and several vehicles were damaged in Perak today as 17 cases of falling trees were reported, with the latest at 4.43pm.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said one incident at Jalan Kamunting, near Taman Glen View, resulted in two individuals suffering serious injuries when a tree fell on a car and a motorcycle.
“The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, and a girl believed to be his daughter (about 15 years old), suffered serious injuries and were both unconscious when the fire brigade arrived,” he said in a statement.
He said five women were in the car, aged between 16 and 35, and two suffered minor injuries while the rest escaped unhurt.
In the other incidents, no casualties were reported although several vehicles were damaged.
In Sabah, the state Fire Department received 23 emergency calls involving falling trees from 7.14am to 3.06pm across several districts.
The department’s Operation Centre said in a statement that strong winds and heavy rains toppled trees in 11 districts.
It added that there were cases in Kota Kinabalu (five), Penampang (four), Tenom (three), Kuala Penyu (three) Papar (two), Sook (one), Kota Belud (one), Sipitang (one), Tuaran (one), Putatan (one), and Kudat (one).
“However, no casualties were reported,” it added.
