I refer to the malaysiakini report Anwar: Revoke Makkal Osai suspension.

With reference to the fact that the daily Tamil newspaper Makkal Osai has been suspended for one month for publishing an image of Jesus holding a cigarette and beer can, I can surely say that we Christians are against it.

Admittedly, I have not seen the picture myself. However, I can imagine it as described by the media. Despite the negative depiction with the naive intention to poke fun, we Christians have seen worse. Yet, with the need to express our disapproval, we do not require actions designed to harm the perpetrator.

I can understand the government's action in banning Makkal Osai as they may have taken a cue from the not-so-recent incident of the Danish caricatures episode. Even though the original act was committed in Denmark, the subsequent worldwide outrage has caused several deaths and the indefinite closure of several newspapers.

We are Christians. Our faith requires us to turn the other cheek and forgive. Therefore, the government should not overreact. There is no necessity to quell any possible civic unrest here. Makkal Osai may have published a caricature of Jesus. Compare that to the popular cartoon series, 'South Park' and the I'm sure the caricature would pale in its 'insult'.

In conclusion, the 'victims' have already forgiven Makkal Osai and now join them in seeking that the ban on the newspaper is lifted. Please heed our request.
