I refer to the report, Editors ordered to appear in court (Nov 2), in which Justice Dr RK Nathan was quoted to have said; "We must revamp the manner of reporting in this country." I could not agree more with the learned judge's sentiments, and applaud his decision to call to court the editors of a number of publications, for the purpose, one presumes, of correcting their ways. I should only want to add that when doing so, the judge will also lecture the editors concerned on the need for more rigorous, analytical reporting, the type which would require reporters to ask questions which are often blindingly obvious. An example would be the questions that one might ask a new judge on his appointment; should not the reporter ask how the judge intends to ensure a distance from former clients and others, with whom any association, after his appointment, may bring into question the judge's objectivity?
