Please allow me to refer to The Star news item Produce more with same factory. At the just concluded MCA annual general meeting, a delegate, Yap Kim Choo, labelled women as children- producing factories.

When the menstrual cycle was referred to as 'bocor' by an MP in the Parliament not long ago, there was a hue and cry from all quarters over such a stupid remark. But according the above report, the MCA delegates were very much amused by the 'factory' remark.

Although I am a male, I have always had highest respect for mothers bearing and raising up children. As such, I find such remarks as 'working overtime with the same factory' to be very unbecoming and disgusting.

Equating women to 'factories' is just as insulting to womenfolk as referring to menstruation as 'bocor'. What was it that the ministers and YBs present at the AGM found amusing? What about the feelings of the female delegates present? Were they equally tickled by such a stupid remark?

Didn't they feel that the remark was offensive that they were made the butt of a joke? Isn't this remark no better than the 'bocor' remark?

Oops! Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree. Such remarks may be derogatory to others but not to members of the ruling parties. If that is the case, my sincere apologies.
