The New Straits Times reported on the arrest of a Johor businessman by the Commercial Crime Division despite being cleared by the ACA and the secret society, vice and gaming division of the police.

The Star frontpaged Umno vice-president Muhyiddin Yassin's statement that a new national consensus was needed to settle sensitive issues.

Malay newspapers

Both Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia featured the launch of Umno Puteri and Putera election machinery in Kepala Batas by PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Chinese newspapers

In Sin Chew Daily, the National Registration Department director general revealed that members of the public apply to change their names in MyKad for various reasons.

Nanyang Siang Pau quoted the Education Minister Hishammuddin Hussein as saying that the education system must be urgently revamped in light of the surmounting disciplinary problems among students and their academic achievements.

Oriental Daily News reported that there was a need to reaffirm consensus on issues such as Federal Constitution, social contract and Rukun Negara, stressed Umno vice-president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil dailies - Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan and Makkal Osai - reported the double tragedy of a family in Kuala Lumpur where a woman was pushed to her death from her apartment in the 10th floor. Seeing this, her grandmother died of a heart attack.

Makkal Osai reported the gathering of thousands of Indian Malaysians at Putrajaya yesterday protest over their marginalisation in this country. The daily also reported that two women had warned drama actress K Sujatha, who died on June 25, to cut off her relationship with a prominent person.

Editorials

The New Straits Times called for the use of renewable energy as a means of providing electricity to rural communities.

Berita Harian urged the government to enforce better standards of hygiene in schools.

Utusan Malaysia commented on the rights of those living in rural areas to clean water and electricity.

Sin Chew Daily commented on the 50th anniversary of Malaysia and Japan diplomatic relationship.

Nanyang Siang Pau commend that student Wee Chee Meng's rendition of the national anthem as a spirit to 'challenge the limit' though it did seem 'out of bound'.

Malaysia Nanban said prisoners too deserved to be accorded with their rights. It commented on recent reports that a prisoner in Tapah prison was beaten by wardens.
