PARLIAMENT | Putrajaya has yet to finalise its subsidy rationalisation plan for RON95 petrol, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat this morning, he said the government still does not have a policy paper for “quick implementation” of targeted petrol subsidies.
Instead, he said the government wants to monitor the impact of recently introduced targeted subsidies for electricity, chicken, and diesel first.
“There has been a study on this (petrol subsidy rationalisation), but I believe it is better that we monitor first the ones that we have implemented, namely (the targeted subsidies) for electricity, chicken, and diesel.
“We have started with these three, so we want to look at their impact and the rakyat’s reaction.
“Only after that we will be ready to discuss,” he said.
Anwar was responding to a question raised by Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who wanted to know if the government is going to implement targeted subsidies for RON95.
In his answer, the prime minister said he would not discount any possibility including going through the rationalisation plan for government subsidies on RON95.
He again stressed the need to stop government subsidies from flowing into the hands of the “super rich” and foreigners.
