Will MAHB go bust without Blackrock, Akmal asks PM

Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) won’t go bankrupt if it does not sell its shares to Blackrock, says Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

Akmal said there are many other companies that the airport operator can deal with instead of the Israel-linked Blackrock.

“There are many other companies with the relevant expertise that MAHB can seek.

“In my view, I don’t think MAHB would cease operations or go bankrupt without Blackrock’s involvement,” he said.

Akmal said this at a press conference after chairing the Umno Youth leadership meeting at WTC Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision during his second tenure as prime minister to drop the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project and cancel the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had impacted the nation’s economy.

‘U-turn if possible’

Akmal’s statement followed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s defence of the share sales by MAHB to Blackrock.

“That's why we are asking the government to reconsider. If it is possible to U-turn this sale, do so because we have to be firm on the issue and continue to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people," stressed Akmal.

Akmal said that proceeding with the deal would contradict Malaysia's stand in solidarity with Palestine, despite Anwar reaffirming the government's position on the matter.

"The fact is, today GIP belongs to Blackrock, which we know openly supports the genocidal activities that take place on Palestinian land.

"This direct sale will expose assets of national and public interest to parties close to and sympathetic to the Zionist agenda.

"We fully support the actions of the government that has expressed strong, undivided support for the Palestinian people, but we ask for solidarity not only at the international level, it must be demonstrated in our own country," he added.
