Witness ASP Zulkarnain Samsudin admitted his error for the discrepancies found in the police report lodged concerning the second accused's disclosure of jewellery in his home in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial today.

Earlier today, the Shah Alam High Court was thrown into confusion over discrepancies found in two identical police reports made by Zulkarnain, 34, on Nov 7 last year.

During cross examination by corporal Sirul Azhar Umar's counsel Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, Zulkarnain said he had spotted the error when he checked the report and filed the correction after visiting Sirul's house in Kota Damansara.

He revealed that the original report was typed out by chief inspector Koh Fei Cheow after Sirul made a revelation about the jewellery believed to belong to Mongolian national Altantuya on Nov 7 last year.

The 'erroneous' report made before Zulkarnain's correction was tagged as D91 and it was handed to the witness to compare with the corrected copy which the prosecution team had tagged as P76.

The Kuala Lumpur serious crime division officer told the court he had checked the report at about 6.30pm that night and realised that Sirul's name was not in it.

"I contacted the IT department in Bukit Aman to make the correction. I was told to submit a correction report through the police report system (PRS).

"So I requested that 'penama' (named) be changed to 'suspect corporal 125591 Sirul Azhar Umar'. I also changed the sentence 'saya tembak di kawasan hutan yang saya simpan'. I changed the word 'yang' to 'ada'."

Kamarul continued to quiz on the discrepancies found in the two reports. Discrepancies include the spelling of (Zulkarnain's name) Samsudin as 'Shamsuddin'.

"How can you say you checked the (erroneous) report when you signed a document that spells your father's name wrongly?" Kamarul asked.

Zulkarnain stressed that he checked the report but said police officers can sign reports at a later date and not necessary immediately after.

Error in date of birth

There was also an error with the officer's date of birth as pointed out by the counsel.

"The police report which you wanted to correct states 5/10/1973 but in the corrected form, it states 5/10/2073. Do you have any idea how this happened?" the counsel asked.

Zulkarnain admitted he did not request for a change in his birth date and said he "had no idea" why the amendments appear in the corrected report.

The court then stood down after Kamarul requested for a break to refer his copies of the report with the original document from the prosecution team.

Deputy public prosecutor Tun Majid Tun Hamzah complied and said he will request for the original copies from the murder's investigating officer ASP Tonny Lunggan.

The hearing resumes next Wednesday.

Two police officers, chief inspector Azilah Hadri, 31, and Sirul, 36, are charged with the murder which allegedly took place between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am on Oct 20 last year.

Altantuya's body was said to be blown up in a jungle clearing in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Abdul Razak is charged with abetting the murder by giving the orders out to them at between 9.54am on Oct 18 and 9.45pm on Oct 19 last year in Kuala Lumpur.

All three accused face the death penalty if convicted.
