Strengthen party into a national political giant - Anwar
He also called for the party to move actively and be more aggressive in implementing information programmes about the party’s policies.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has urged party members to implement more concrete actions starting from the grassroots level to strengthen the party and rise as a national political giant.
He also called for the party to move actively and be more aggressive in implementing information programmes about the party’s policies.
“First, the membership must be large. The branches must be alive and the divisions must be fresh.
“The state leadership council must be more active and the machinery of the committee must be greater than before.
“The party needs to aggressively explain its attitude and stand and vigorously strengthen our machinery so that PKR emerges as a giant in our country’s political system,” he said in a speech at a special party convention in conjunction with its 25th-anniversary celebrations in Shah Alam, Selangor, today.
Anwar also reminded party members they need to strategise properly to defeat opponents who play up religious and racial sentiments.
“Doesn’t matter how loud we can chant, or how true our intention is, without proper strategies and strong machinery, we would lose to those who just shout ‘hidup Melayu’ and ‘laksanakan Islam’ (practice Islam), even though we know they have a poor track record,” he added.
According to Anwar, the strengthening of PKR will be assisted by the secretariat of the party president’s office, which will provide more details and closely monitor efforts.
“I have asked several friends to help me and our machinery by supplying information and monitoring implementation at all levels,” he added.
