With regards to hawkers at school grounds, there is no chance of any enforcement to keep them away from children leaving school. My children attend a private school in Kota Damansara. That school rents its premises. The parking lot/bus discharge area where up to five hawkers gather every afternoon is on council land.

Therefore, anyone who wants to do anything on public land can do it. The school cannot send its security personnel to handle any issue, not even hawkers.

There are 'no smoking' rules for the school that are broken in the parking lots; littering and loitering by drivers of expensive cars; indiscriminate parking; hazardous pedestrian crossing activity etc.

The headmaster of my children's school is powerless to do anything about any issue that occurs on council land. So calls from the CAP for any kind of ruling that would curb the activities of petty hawkers (who evidently have very strong voices in the local councils) will fall on deaf ears.

A pity because the school has a good programme in its canteens that limits unhealthy food to students. The canteens are reasonably well-run.

Unfortunately, just outside the school, there is no enforcement that will help towards improving the safety and health of the students.
