Bersatu expected to amend party constitution at general assembly

Bersatu is expected to amend its party constitution during a special general assembly on March 2.

This comes after six Bersatu MPs switched allegiance and declared support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim without quitting the party to avoid triggering the anti-hopping law.

Bersatu information chief Razali Idris uploaded the letter containing details of the special general assembly on his Facebook page last night.

“God willing, it will be the end (of the six MPs who are backing Anwar), hopefully, Bersatu will rise again and continue to move forward,” Razali’s caption read.

The letter, dated Feb 13 and signed by the party’s secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, detailed that the general assembly will commence at 3pm and it will last for two hours.

It will take place at IDCC Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam.

“Therefore, it is hoped that all representatives will be able to attend to carry out their responsibilities as party members,” the letter read.

So far, six Bersatu parliamentarians have pledged their backing for Anwar, citing the well-being of their constituents.

They are Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

On Jan 26, Syed Abu Hussin claimed that about 10 more Bersatu MPs are expected to declare their support for Anwar.

Hamzah, on Jan 29, said his party has agreed to amend Article 10 of the party’s constitution to keep its elected representatives in line.
