Former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor said today that PAS will likely be the party of his choice in order for him to pursue an anti-corruption agenda.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of returning to Umno either.

"I want to see which party will be the platform for me to play an active role to fight corruption. At the moment, I don't see PKR as such a platform, the same with Umno.

"So it is likely that it will be PAS," he said when met at the office of the Democracy and Anti-Corruption Movement (Gerak) in Kelana Jaya this afternoon.

The 40-year-old politician, who was the former PKR Youth chief, currently heads Gerak.

He reiterated that he would focus on the anti-corruption watchdog for the time being and that he would not seek to contest in the next general election.

Last week, Ezam announced that he had quit from all posts in PKR after citing differences with his mentor Anwar Ibrahim, who is the de facto leader of PKR, and vice-president Azmin Ali.

At that time, he had admitted he was in talks with both Umno and PAS to ascertain his political future.

'Cynical answer'

Yesterday, PAS organ harakahdaily quoted Ezam as saying that he saw "no reason" to return to Umno since the ruling party is not 'sincere' in carrying out reforms.

PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar who held a meeting with Ezam yesterday at the PAS headquarters also said the latter promised not to return to Umno.

When showed the media reports this afternoon, Ezam's first response was, "Who said this?"

He claimed that he had merely offered a "cynical answer to a cynical statement" in response to Umno Youth chief Hishammuddin Hussein.

Hishammuddin had said that Ezam must show sincerity before returning to Umno.
"I have not rejected the kind gestures from my friends in both Umno and PAS. I don't want to be seen as arrogant," Ezam explained.

Meanwhile, he also said Gerak is planning a series of roadshows nationwide to promote awareness on making "corruption the No 1 enemy".

It will kick off this Friday in Johor and the last stop will be in Selangor on August 26.
