Kedah Football Association (KFA) plans to take legal action against those who try to smear its name with corruption allegations.
Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the association will also issue an official statement to debunk the claims against KFA and its management members.
The KFA president added that they will reveal relevant documents including the association's audited bank statement to show that it is transparent in its financial management.
"KFA will issue an official statement regarding the corruption allegations and MACC investigation that seemed to have been leaked on purpose to humiliate KFA and the Kedah government leaders,” Sanusi said in a statement today.
According to him, the documents include the privatisation of Kedah Darul Aman Football Club, an RM5 million loan application, RM1.3 million of repayment, documents related to certain project applications that were rejected (by the state) because of qualification issues, and audited statements to show transparency of KFA financial management, among others.
"To those who had been going all out to smear the association's name by alleging that bribery of RM6 million occurred in KFA, and linking the accusation to certain individuals - especially the KFA president and its staff - you will be receiving letters containing civil suit in your respective houses and offices," he added.
RM6m reward claims
KFA was embroiled in an alleged corruption scandal earlier this week when MACC reportedly arrested its CEO Zulkifli Che Haron, along with three other individuals.
The four individuals were arrested to assist in investigating a corruption case involving over RM6 million in 2020.
According to Berita Harian, sources said the amount was believed to be a reward for assisting a company owner to secure contracts for a race circuit project as well as the management and maintenance of five water reservoirs in Kedah.
The sources indicated that MACC launched its probe based on a report by contractors who were previously promised projects in the state.
Following this, MACC summoned Sanusi to record his statement at the graftbusters’ office in Putrajaya yesterday.
