PAS has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to specify what he meant by “RM500 million and RM750 million” in a statement yesterday, purportedly over enticements for govt MPs to defect.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said he hoped this would not be like a previous accusation Anwar levelled against Perikatan Nasional that the opposition coalition allegedly received gambling funds.
“Why are RM500 million and RM750 million written in the statement? It means there is specific information. If there is specific information, please PMX (Anwar) just reveal it.
“Don’t let it be like the gambling fund issue that was smeared onto PN. After a year, it still hasn’t been proven,” Fadhli said.
This comes following a statement by Anwar yesterday after the prime minister had a face-to-face audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at Istana Negara.
In the statement, Anwar said the king’s decree was for the coalition government to continue administering the country.
“His Majesty ordered me and the Madani government to continue the work of managing the country.”
His statement also included: “I also suggest that if anyone wants to donate RM500 million or RM750 million, it should be channelled directly to the poor and needy in the country.”
He did not elaborate on the donations, but it was speculated to refer to claims by certain parties that large sums of money were spent to entice government MPs to defect.
‘Disrespecting Agong’
Commenting further, Fadhli said the prime minister’s actions in releasing the statement raised doubts and was disrespectful of the Agong.
“Rushing to get ahead of the Istana Negara. What’s the rush?
“This action is like disrespecting the primary position of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Istana Negara in issuing an official statement.
“In an official and important meeting involving the palace, the excitement of sharing shouldn’t be until there is lebih sudu dari kuah (overreaching),” he said.
