An aide to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has denied corruption allegations levelled by Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin and plans to initiate legal action against the latter.
Senior political secretary to the prime minister, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, described the claims made by Badrul, also known as Chegubard, as unsubstantiated slander.
“I deny the accusations and slander against me and the Prime Minister’s Office.
“While we welcome ideas and criticisms, it should not be based on slander and unsubstantiated claims.
“I hope the authorities will investigate the matter and take appropriate action,” Sinar Harian reported Shamsul as saying after lodging a police report against Badrul, who is a Bersatu information committee member.
Earlier, Shamsul lodged reports at the Seberang Jaya police station and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over Badrul’s social media post yesterday.
‘Stop the slander’
In the post, Badrul said he was gathering evidence of alleged corruption by a senior political secretary to the prime minister.
He claimed that Shamsul, through his staffers and proxies, were using their political allies to abuse NGO funds.
Badrul added that he would reveal the details on Jan 8, which includes handing over evidence to the authorities.
On that note, Shamsul told Badrul to approach the authorities if the latter has any evidence of wrongdoing instead of making allegations online.
“Take your proof to the authorities like the MACC instead of making online posts which would create tension among the public.
“In a democracy, anyone can criticise but not slander. I hope action will be taken to ensure the opposition doesn’t go around ruining people’s image with made-up stories.”
